Here we are at Samhain once again, and once again I find myself wanting to get a fresh start on creating a better "me". Traditionally this is the time of year for it; the Sabbat of transitions, the end of the harvest, a time for divination of what the future holds. And, my hope is that the future holds a more fit and healthy Mo, specifically, a more physically active one.
We already eat fairly healthy around here, and my weight (luckily) has never been an issue, but now that the 40's have taken hold of me, I find my mid section isn't as firm as taunt as it used to be, I don't have the physical strength and conditioning that I had in my 20's and 30's and I'm simply not content with that being the case.
I have to say, I started off on a good note. I got up this morning and began my day with what I hope will be a regular routine of exercising. I've been wanting to join a gym, as I'd really like to try a zumba class (I've been saying that for months now, tho, and it still hasn't come to fruition), but better something, than *nothing*, and so a regular routine of exercise-at-home is where I plan to begin...gotta get those abs back in shape for summer fashion at the beach!
The biggest problem for me has always been that I'm really not motivated to exercise just for exercise sake. I don't want to treadmill or bike in my spare room, but a bike ride on the beachfront could be fun; an aerobic class would bore me, but I could dance all night; I only run if someone is chasing me, but a walk in the woods with the dogs would be a great way to spend a morning. The trick for me is to find a way to keep it from FEELING like exercise, and thinking it's for fun not fitness.
And, if I could find some tricks to do the same with my housework, life would be damn-near perfect!
A Blessed Samhain to you all, and may your New Year be filled with Health and Happiness...
