"O" is for...

For Bermuda Onion's Wondrous Words Wednesday; a weekly meme where we share new (to us) words that we’ve encountered in our reading throughout the previous week.

I have two words this week that I came upon in my reading of "The Wheel of Darkness" by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child:

  • obsequious adj. : servility compliant or deferential
  • "His two companions had already seated themselves and they rose obsequiously as he arrived." (pg 178)

  • oenophile n. : a lover of wine, originally from Greek, love (philia) of wine (oinos) (definition via Wikipedia)
  • "Blakcburn suddenly paused in the middle of the oenophilic ritual, the glass arrested halfway to his mouth. (pg 183)

That's all I have to share with you this week, folks... what about YOU??
What Wondrous Words have you encountered this week??
*All definitions are garnered from The Random House Dictionary of the English Language, Unabridged Edition, unless otherwise noted.

I just learned oenophile a week ago. I've been up here in wine country and didn't even know that.

I probably should have recognized oenophile, but had already forgotten. You found two good ones.
