More McNally-isms

For Bermuda Onion's Wondrous Words Wednesday; a weekly meme where we share new (to us) words that we’ve encountered in our reading throughout the previous week.

Well, I'm very late to the game today, but I have a few words to share, taken from the pages of "McNally's Gamble" by Lawrence Sanders:

  • concupiscence n. : ardent, usually sensuous longing
  • uxorious adj. : doting upon, foolishly fond of, or affectionately over submissive toward one's wife
  • "After a while I wondered into the house and went up to my den much bemused by what I had learned from Jamie about Helen Westmore's concupiscence. Poor Walter, I would have wagered suffered from uxoriousness." (pg 119)

  • cynosure n. : something that strongly attracts attention by its brilliance, interest, etc.
  • "And while I will not claim we were the cynosure of all, we did attract attention. (pg 224)

That's all I have to share with you this week, folks... what about YOU??
What Wondrous Words have you encountered this week??
*All definitions are garnered from The Random House Dictionary of the English Language, Unabridged Edition, unless otherwise noted.

I doubt I can even pronounce those words, let alone use them! They're all new to me. Thanks for participating!
