New Year, New Challenges
With many of these reading challenges coming to a close, I thought I’d take this opportunity to announce my planned participation in a few more:
Annie is hosting the What’s in a Name challenge, which will run from 1/01 to 6/30, and the challenge is to read a book with the following six “things” in the title:Color: "With Red Hands" by Stephen Woodworth
Animal: "People of the Wolf" by W.Micheal Gear and Kathleen O’Neal Gear;
alt "Air Dance Iguana" by Tom Corcoran; alt "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time" by Mark Haddon
First Name: "Judas Child" by Carol O’Connnor;
alt "Daisy’s Back in Town" by Rachel Gibson; alt "Ellen & the Barber" by Frank O’Roarke
Place: "Witch Hill" by Marion Zimmer Bradley
alt "The Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley; alt "The Island" by Heather Graham
Weather Event: "A Wicked Snow" by Gregg Olsen
Plant: "Hemlock Bay" by Catherine Coulter
Also, Kim is hosting the Every Month’s a Holiday challenge, in which participants read one book each month that in some way (Kim’s very lenient here, challenging her participants to “get creative”) corresponds with a holiday/celebration which occurs in said month; to run all of 2008, from 1/o1 to 12/31. As it isn’t necessary to name all my selections prior to joining, I think I will reveal only my January selection at this time (in “observance” of International Skeptics Day on January 13th, my selection will be “Lies My Teacher Told Me” by James Loewen), and all subsequent choices will be announced with the previous months review. (i.e. Feb’s choice will be noted with Jan’s review, Mar with Feb’s review, and so forth)
I am planning to take a similar approach to Becky’s Celebrate the Author challenge, which also runs from Jan to Dec, and her participants read a title written by an author who was born in each month. For January, I intend to read either “The Gods Themselves” by Isaac Asimov, whose birth date is Jan. 2nd, or The Brother’s Grimm Household Tales, in honor of Jakob Grimm, whose birth date is Jan 4th.And I think that, for now, these should sufficiently keep me entertained, while whittling away at Mount TBR at the same time…

Good to hear, Miz Becky!
Ya know, I've joined....mmm, maybe a dozen of these blogsphere reading challenges, and (even IF I didn't "successfully" complete them ALLL) they have REALLLLLY given me an incentive to dust off some of those books languishing on Mt. TBR...and, they've all been loads of fun!!
Lookin' forward to your reviews!
(and as always, thanks for stoppin' in...)
Welcome to the What's In a Name? Challenge. Thanks for joining in! Hope you have fun!
